Cave Canem - October 24th, 2011


This event is part of the development of performance and performance studies at Pratt as well as efforts to increase diversity programming on campus.

BROOKLYN, NY (September 26, 2011) Cave Canem Foundation, North America's premier home for black poetry, will showcase the dramatic works of poet-playwrights and Pratt faculty on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Pratt Institute's Brooklyn campus as part of Cave Canem's annual benefit. The program will be held 8-10 pm at Memorial Hall, 200 Willoughby Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.

Directed by Ted Sod, the event will feature award-winning actors and playwrights including Suzzanne Douglas, Samantha Maurice, Tracie Morris, Lili Taylor and John Douglas Thompson. The performers will present selections from Cornelius Eady's "Brutal Imagination", Jessica Hagedorn's "Stairway to Heaven", May Joseph's "Fled" and Claudia Rankine and Casey Llewellyn's "Existing Conditions". Poet Mahogany Browne, host and curator of Friday Night Slam at New York City Nuyorican Poets Caf, is emcee.

This is the second year that Pratt is hosting a Cave Canem event on campus under the auspices of HMS/SLAS.
